ITA Software, an airline information technology and development services provider, occupies the majority of the building at 141 Portland Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. To successfully complete the office space build out, Lake Contracting planned rigorously beforehand and took the utmost care in implementation. The lack of open, unused office space increased the complexity of the project. Lake even made special provisions not to disturb the employees of ITA Software as the construction progressed.
Main Stairwell
In order to connect the different floors that made up ITA Software’s offices, Lake had to create new stairwells throughout the building, which posed a challenge to the construction process. Because the staircases needed to line up exactly, Lake was required to very precisely cut through the thick concrete slab floors: The measurements had to be perfect. Each of the staircases was then custom-built and welded together and the customized glass work installed.
Reception Area
Visitors to ITA Software are treated to a warm and inviting reception area. The space features an ebonite counter top at the main desk and two flat-screen televisions. The flooring includes both beautiful hardwood as well as carpeting.
Functional Spaces
ITA Software employees who spend long hours coding can now enjoy the new spaces built to support their hard work. For meals, there is the main lunch room, and each floor offers additional kitchenettes with refrigerators and microwaves. For employees needing to stay after hours, Lake installed unique bathroom facilities with showers.
